Report: Leeds United join duo in race for 28-y/o international striker

|

Leeds United are keeping tabs on Mbaye Diagne as the club draw up a list of potential strikers that they could sign ahead of next season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been fantastic this season and they deservedly lead the way in the Championship with just nine games to play. Despite that, there have been a few issues up top, as whilst Patrick Bamford has impressed with his all-round game, he is the Whites top scorer with 13 goals and that doesn’t compare well to others in the league.

With Jean-Kevin Augustin yet to make any sort of impact due to fitness issues, finding a new number nine in the summer could be a priority and reports from Tavkim suggest Diagne is a target.

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

The 28-year-old, who has won nine caps for Senegal, is contracted to Galatasaray but he has been on loan at Club Brugge. However, his move to Belgium didn’t work out, with Diagne publicly criticised and dropped by boss Philippe Clement for taking, and missing, a penalty against PSG in the Champions League when he wasn’t the designated taker.

That came back in November and Diagne hasn’t played for the Belgian champions since, so he will be returning to Turkey in the summer. Leeds will face competition for his signature though, with the report stating that Watford and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring the striker. The update also suggests that Diagne is just one of a number of players that the Championship leaders are checking on ahead of the transfer window.
