Report: Leeds United emerge as frontrunners in chase for 28-y/o defender

|

Leeds United are interested in signing French defender Samuel Yohou who will be available on a free transfer in the coming months.

The towering centre-back currently plays for Paris FC in Ligue 2 and although it had been a tough season for the club, who were 17th in the table before the authorities cancelled the remainder of the campaign, Yohou impressed. And, according to Le10 Sport, the Whites have started talks with the player as they look to snap him up when his current deal expires in the summer.

The report claims that Coventry City and Italian outfit Crotone have also been monitoring the player but they stress that Leeds are ahead of them in the race for the 28-year-old, who has apparently caught the eye because of his physicality and technical ability.

You would imagine the chance to join Leeds ahead of those clubs would appeal, as there is every chance the Whites could offer Yohou Premier League football next season. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently top of the Championship and hold a seven point lead over third-placed Fulham in the race for automatic promotion.

Bringing in defensive reinforcements is sure to be a priority for the Yorkshire club in the transfer window as well, with current on-loan centre-back Ben White unlikely to return to Elland Road for next season following his outstanding performances over the past nine months.

That leaves Leeds very short at the back, particularly with Gaetano Berardi, another who has played centre-back in the past, out of contract at the end of June.
