Leeds United are mulling over a potential January bid for Rangers star defender Connor Goldson, according to Football Insider.

The Whites are keen to begin identifying central-defensive targets that we can acquire either during the winter market or in the summer, ahead of a potential season of Premier League football in West Yorkshire.

Goldson is firmly among the options currently being considered at Elland Road, where Director of Football Victor Orta and his transfer department are scouting potential candidates that can play for either a leading Championship side or one in the top-flight.

Wolverhampton-born Goldson moved to Ibrox from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2018 for around £3million, and has been a mainstay of the Gers line-up under Steven Gerrard ever since.

The 27-year-old missed just six of Rangers’ 60 fixtures in all competitions last season, and has already amassed 36 outings from a possible 37 this term.

Gerrard is yet to replace Goldson prior to the full-time whistle in any of his appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, with the towering 6 ft 3 centre-half also helping to keep 20 clean sheets in all competitions.

Rangers are aware of the mounting interest in Goldson’s services, with Fulham believed to be plotting a move to sign the Shrewsbury product this month.

Gers boss Gerrard does not want to lose an integral part of his plans at Ibrox, with his side currently two points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Premiership table but with a game in hand.

Goldson did not record outlandish statistics during his Europa League Group Stage appearances earlier in the campaign, with Sofa Score only registering 0.5 interceptions and 0.2 tackles per game, though he did make 6.5 clearances.

The former Seagulls fringe defender also won 65% of his duels per game in the Europa League for Rangers this season, however his combined success was mostly down to dominating the air with a 75.7% success rate compared to a 22.2% ground duel success rate.

In other Leeds United news, the club are reportedly now the ‘likely destination’ for a 15-cap forward.
