Report: Leeds interested in 185 mins-per-goal striker for promotion boost

|

Leeds United are interested in signing Standard Liege striker Renaud Emond in a bid to boost our promotion hopes, according to The Sun.

Emond has been identified as an option that could help our efforts to seal an automatic spot this season, should the club target a new centre-forward in January.

A decision is yet to be made by executives at Elland Road over whether or not we need to sign another attacking option in the winter market, but have seemingly begun scouting potential candidates as a provision.

Nottingham Forest are also understood to hold an interest in acquiring Emond in the mid-season window to boost their hopes of a Premier League place in 2020/21.

Sabri Lamouchi’s City Ground natives have sent scouts to observe the forward in action for his Belgian side this season, where Emond has hit seven goals in 19 games across all competitions – each coming in the Jupiler Pro League.

But Norwich City are desperate to sign a striker in January having relied heavily on Teemu Pukki since clinching the Championship title last season, and Daniel Farke’s Canaries have been closely watching Emond as they strive to avoid relegation in their first term back in the top-flight.

Would you sign Emond in January?

Yes, we need more goals

Yes, but not for £3m

No, he isn't good enough

Standard Liege fear they may be forced to part company with their 28-year-old captain in January, should an offer of around £3million come their way four-and-a-half-years after his arrival from Waasland-Beveren.

Emond has been a regular of Liege’s league plans this term, but missed three games in October through injury and has been unable to replicate his domestic form in the Europa League.

In four UEFA appearances this season, the 6 ft 1 centre-forward has failed to score and registered one assist, meaning he is on a 185 minutes-per-goal ratio across all competitions.

In other Leeds United news, fans have been hailing a £8k-p/w Whites man for his superlative display against Hull City on Tuesday night.
