‘Remarkable and shows ambition’ – Some Leeds fans react as Hay returns with good transfer news

|

Some Leeds supporters have been reacting on social media after former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay returned to offer some great news on the Whites’ efforts to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Helder Costa.

United have been trying to wrap up a deal for the Portuguese stalwart after it emerged Wolves would be open to the loaning the 25-year-old out for the upcoming campaign, after he struggled to carry over his Championship excellence into the Premier League.

The Molineux outfit’s former club record £13million capture featured in 36 of the Black Country side’s second-tier fixtures on route to lifting the trophy in 2018, while notching five goals and five assists. However, the one-time international found the net just once in the top-flight, having been awarded 25 appearances by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Leeds are not wasting any time in trying to bring Costa back to the Championship in a bid to boost our hopes of leaving the second-tier in our rear-view mirror, and are keen to get the Portuguese signed before we jet off to Australia for our pre-season tour.

Hay also understands the deal for the 25-year-old could feature an option to turn the Benfica product’s loan move into a permanent arrangement at the close of the term, should he impress Marcelo Bielsa enough to warrant the activation of the clause. However, the Whites and Wolves are still locked in negotiations over the option.

The former YEP Leeds writer also shared that the deal for Manchester City winger Jack Harrison to return to Elland Road for another campaign will also include an option to buy the 22-year-old next summer, albeit without clarifying whether or not the Stoke-on-Trent-born ace would be on offer at the current £20million asking price.

Regarding Costa’s move, though, here’s how these Whites fans reacted to Hay’s suggestion of a loan-to-buy deal…
