LeedsLive have reported on Leeds United chairman, Andrea Radrizzani and his thoughts on duo Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt.

The new Leeds United documentary, Academy Dreams which was released on Friday gives a fantastic insight into the day-to-day running of the youth academy and follows young players hoping to be given a chance in the senior side. The six-part series released by Amazon Prime Video reveals unseen footage and exclusive interviews with all involved with the U23s including players, staff and those in charge of the club.

Chairman Andrea Radrizzani can be heard waxing lyrical about 19-year-old centre back, Charlie Cresswell and young striker Joe Gelhardt in interviews for the documentary. In one episode he can be heard talking about Cresswell saying, “He’s a leader, he’s a leader, he’s 19 but he talks like he’s more mature than me. He really is a leader.”

On another occasion when discussing Gelhardt, Radrizzani says, “He is a fantastic boy and maybe he cannot be in the line-up but I think in 30 minutes or 20 minutes in the final part of the game he can impact. Every time he comes in, he impacts.”

It is clear to see how much the academy will play a massive part in the longevity of the club, and those foundations and trust in the youth were led by former coach Marcelo Bielsa. A man well renowned for giving young players the opportunity to show what they are made of. Future stars are playing their way through the ranks, hoping for a chance to be the next big thing and feature for the first team as regulars.

Academy Dreams: Leeds United is available to stream now from Amazon Prime Video.
