Speaking to LS11, Danny Mills has suggested that it might be best that a new player is found to come in at left-back to replace Ezgjan Alioski if we go up this season.
The Macedonian was signed as a winger but in recent weeks he has filled in at full-back and has largely done a good job for the Whites.
He is solid enough and likes to get forward but, at the end of the day, he is still makeshift and a player who knows all about defending feels as though he might not be capable at top-flightlevel in that role.
Mills, who played in the Champions League for us and for England, said:
“I think he’s done a great job at the moment. I think it has a shelf-life, a little bit like James Milner at Liverpool. He did brilliantly at left-back for a while, but it’s not really his position. If you want to kick on, you’ve got to get a proper player.”
He might well be suggesting that a new signing is made to replace Alioski in that position, then, and it remains to be seen if Marcelo Bielsa thinks the same.
First, though, we need to go up.
