The television pundit and former Premier League striker has questioned Leeds decision to potentially let the two main stars leave the club this summer, as per LeedsLive.

Chris Sutton has questioned the Leeds board over the potential outgoings of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.  Manchester City have agreed a deal with Leeds for Phillips and it is looking increasingly likely that Raphinha will be following the England International out of the door at Elland Road.

Sutton said “What about Kalvin Phillips from Leeds to Manchester City, where does that leave Leeds? Their best two players look like they are away. Jesse Marsch came in and he kept them up. But that’s not a good look”.

He added “That was a legitimate criticism (on Leeds not bulking up the squad). Bielsa liked to work with a small and thin squad. They got away with it last season, but if you are a Leeds fan, you are thinking “blimey, our two star men are off. How are we going to stay in the Premier League next season?”

He may have a point, and to be fair to him Leeds two biggest stars are Raphinha and local lad Phillips. To let them both go could be seriously damaging to their chances of survival.  It still remains uncertain if both will leave during this transfer window, but if they do, the Leeds board will need to recycle that money back into the playing staff as soon as possible.

It would be over £100m if the reported fees are correct.  The Phillips deal is said to be around £45m and Leeds are holding out for upwards of £65m for Raphinha.  You would think it would take all that money, and then some to replace players of that quality.
