Pundit Doesn’t Believe 27 y/o’s Departure Would Be “A Bad Thing For Leeds”

|

With most of the summer transfer rumour mill speculation about departures not being overly welcomed by Leeds United fans, former player and now pundit Danny Mills believes that the sale of midfielder Adam Forshaw would be in the best interests of all.

With significant speculation about the futures of Kalvin Phillips and Jack Clarke in particular, Kemar Roofe has swirling speculation as well, but this week there have been grumblings that 27-year old Forshaw could be off to Fulham and speaking to Football Insider, Mills felt it would be good for all sides.

“I’ve seen that Forshaw might be leaving. I don’t think that would be a bid thing for Leeds. If you lose Forshaw and keep hold of Kalvin Phillips and Jamie Shackleton, you can accept that. When you are a Championship club you don’t have the money and finances to keep everyone. That is the situation Leeds are in. Forshaw has been good for Leeds and he’s a very good player. To lose him, you think, ‘this is worrying’. But, if you have to lose him to keep hold of two more important players, suddenly you think, ‘okay, that’s something we can deal with’.”

The former Everton Academy graduate made the switch to Elland Road from Middlesbrough for a reported £4.5million back in the January 2018 window, but with injuries hitting, he’s only actually made 30 starting appearances with a further 14 showings from the bench.

With mixed game time last season, Kalvin Phillips was certainly preferred by manager Marcelo Bielsa so if a Forshaw sale – somewhere in the region of £6-8million as quick profit – ensured we didn’t lose the 23-year-old and helped ease financial pressures, I’m sure most fans would agree with Mill’s summation here – especially given the hopes surrounding Shackleton.
