Leeds announced the schedule for our pre-season fixtures earlier this week and it is safe to say it’s left many of us underwhelmed.
There are some local derbies, of course, which are always nice but they are against lower league opposition – so what are we really going to learn?
Certainly, then, it’d make sense to have some bigger games too to really get us up to speed but instead, the headline is Las Palmas and the rest are pretty much nowhere with all due respect.
The Spanish side should be a decent enough test, but they are alone in that bracket and so it remains to be seen how it actually makes us perform once the season gets going.
Let’s look at the reaction to the Las Palmas news in particular:
Leeds have never played Las Palmas who were relegated from La Liga this season after finishing second bottom. Segunda Division awaits for them next term. #lufc

I played against Las Palmas in 2001 in pre-season. Vinny Samways played there. We lost 5-0:)

Ever since Orta arrived all we are ever linked with is at best 2nd division players from all over the place! Now the best we can get in preseason friendly is a 2nd division Spanish club. Anyone else recognise where the problem is!!!!????

Probably a scouting mission for the January window then

The Verdict
It’ll be a good game by itself but I wish we had a few more of this level to come this summer or even higher.
I know we can’t play Barcelona but we need to test ourselves this pre-season.
