With Leeds United hoping to continue planning for the 2019/20 Championship campaign under the charge of manager Marcelo Bielsa, there was a surprising link on the transfer rumour mill this week and there was a claim that we were interested in bringing Fabian Delph back home from Manchester City.
The report originates in the Sun so usual caveats apply obviously, but with the 29-year-old falling down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola, it’s certainly a novel link to suggest the England international could return home.
With the claim being City would accept and do a deal with someone at £15million I can’t for the life of me think that we’d spend that on a single player next season as we have a couple of positions to fill, and we would undoubtedly be up against a number of Premier League sides.
Whilst the report says a return is likely too expensive, with only a year left on his deal there will be those in the fanbase that are hoping a deal can’t be struck and we can maybe go in with a more sensible offer next January.
There was certainly a mixed reaction in the fanbase.
In a heart beat along with Milner ????????

If Leeds end up losing Kalvin Phillips, Delph would be an ideal replacement … But his wages … Wow. #alaw #lufc

Yeah we want Messi as well but unfortunately the same two issues are hindering this deal as well.

I'm surprised there are only two issues

Why would Delph drop to the Championship?
