Leeds United assistant manager Gus Poyet moved quickly to praise the young players that were given their chance playing Derby County last weekend. With relegation already confirmed, Dennis Wise wanted to try a few of the players that will no likely play a bigger part of the season of League One action!

With four teenagers given their debuts, our Gus was somewhat happy with their performances, even despite Robert Bayly`s decision to try to “headbut” someone on the pitch!

Poyet said:

All the players responded in a professional way,’ said Gus. ‘It wasn’t a normal game, it was quite slow compared to the others. We played a few kids and they did well.

We were very happy with the kids – everyone really – because it was a very difficult day.

We wanted to give the young players a game and it’s important for them. They’ve got good futures.

We see the under-18s having a big chance to make it to the first team so we’ll see if they make it.’
