“Yet another disastrous January” – Some Leeds fans react as rival still in frame for 5 ft 5 target

|

Some Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by Toro.it, claiming Torino are still in the frame for Manchester City winger Ian Poveda.

Torino, Leeds and Parma are all credited with an interest in acquiring the 5 ft 5 forward during the January window, as Poveda is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium this summer and the 19-year-old’s talents on the open market would spark a much more crowded race for his signature.

But Torino are struggling to reach an agreement with Manchester City that would see Poveda join Walter Mazzarri’s Il Toro this month, and may instead look to seal an arrangement with the teenager’s entourage that would see him move to Italy in the summer as a free agent.

Toro.it feel the interest from Leeds and Parma, and City’s hesitancy to agree terms, has left Torino playing a chess game, and do not sense Il Toro are presently going flat out with their efforts though expect General Manager Antonio Comi to prepare an attack.

Will we sign Poveda?

Yes

No

It had recently been speculated that Leeds had agreed on personal terms with Poveda and his representatives after they visited Thorp Arch last week, leaving United chiefs ‘confident’ that the winger would be joining Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has also offered his confidence in the England U20 international moving to West Yorkshire, noting that he should be presented as a Leeds player before the end of the week and that the forward underwent a medical on Thursday.

BBC Sport’s Adam Pope shared the same sentiment, as well, noting that Poveda is set to sign his Leeds contract this week.
