Players’ Elland Road exit near as agent confirms interest in Leeds man – report

|

Super agent Mino Raiola has told SDNA that Panathinaikos are interested in signing Leeds midfielder Vurnon Anita this summer.

The Greek website had revealed at the start of July that the 30-year-old was due to hold talks with United chiefs upon his return to Thorp Arch, as he intends to terminate his contract a year early. SDNA now understand discussions are still ongoing over the level of compensation the 30-year-old will receive.

Anita needs the compensation from the Whites to secure a move to Greece, as the level of pay Panathinaikos can offer is not thought to be anywhere near what he currently earns in West Yorkshire.

Panathinaikos Sporting Director Nikos Dabizas is expected to push the Athens Olympic Stadium natives financial limits to secure his services, though, but it would be unlikely that he can bridge the gap substantially.

Confirmation of the 3-cap flop’s departure is expected soon, however, as SDNA note that it is only a matter of time before the 5 ft 4 man is no longer a Leeds player, having played 22 games for the club on the back of his free transfer from Newcastle United.

As for a move to Panathinaikos, Raiola claims it is a possibility.

“It is possible for Panathinaikos, yes,” he said. “Everything is possible in life. We will see what will happen.”

Anita is understood to have impressed Dabizas during his time on loan in the Dutch Eredivisie with Willem II last season, where he made 31 appearances in all competitions.
