Having been promoted to a role on manager Marcelo Bielsa’s first team bench this summer, Leeds United’s former Under 23 guru Carlos Corberan is arguably playing a good part in the growing links that we are seeing between our senior and youth setups.
With a number of youngsters used during the pre-season warm-up campaign as Bielsa got his feet under the Elland Road desk, a clear pathway from our Under 23 level through into the senior side are clear for all to see. First-team debuts have been handed to both Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke so far in the early months of this campaign and Bielsa seems to operate with a very open ‘if you can do a job, you’ll get a chance’ attitude to promoting through.
The YEP’s Phil Hay had a good piece on their burgeoning relationship and the benefits that is already bringing us the other day.

The main takeaway is in seeing the levels operate on a joined-up basis and that kind of setup and joint philosophy can only help youngsters as they make the step up as they already have the basics of the job they are being asked to do. It makes for a good read, and fans were delighted with what they heard.

Now we are talking that’s a long term project for a prosperous and successful future. I just hope this is going to be a long term stability and we can ride any rocky times ahead with no knee jerk reactions believing we have a plan to take us forward in the long term

Corberan is a future manager in the making but more importantly the early work Bielsa & Corberan are putting in will set the foundation for years to come.

Very smart if he works with Bielsa closely, Bielsa isn't going to be here for that long so need someone to takeover who knows the Bielsa way.

This is totally the way to go because Bielsa will only be here 2 years maximum. Change the culture forever at Leeds United and produce top coaches/managers as well as players.
