Former Leeds United loanee Matt Grimes secured himself a contract extension yesterday with fellow Championship side Swansea City and a few in the Elland Road faithful have long memories and saw it as the perfect opportunity to have a laugh at the relegated sides expense.
The now 23-year-old didn’t have the best of times whilst with us a few years back when former manager Garry Monk brought him in. His season-long spell back in 2016/17 saw him make only five starts across all competitions, and although his appearances included a further seven substitute showings, he didn’t get a single minute of game time following the FA Cup defeat to Sutton United at the end of January.

Yeah, bet you had to fend off loads of clubs to get that deal over the line.

Given the player was highly rated in terms of his potential and their gaffer Graham Potter seems to rely heavily on him now, we didn’t see much of it but given the second lease of life manager Marcelo Bielsa has brought out of some, I can’t help but wonder what might have been.
