I’m not sure a single week has gone by in the Championship campaign of 2018/19 where Leeds United weren’t, to some degree at least, linked with a move this summer for former versatile midfielder James Milner.

With many believing that the 61 cap England international will be moving on this summer, especially if he can help Liverpool to the Champions League Final over the weekend, hopes have been high that we would see him back at Elland Road.

In fairness, the speculation itself seemed to start with fans dreaming and then it fed itself with the media catching up and rehashing the speculation, without there actually being anything concrete in the suggestions.

We can dream though and plenty did but with a failure to gain promotion to the Premier League this year, I guess most thought it was now simply a pipe dream.

With a fan asking Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay the direct question on Wednesday, his response was probably expected, even if not wanted.

Expect the rumour to be back next month!
