Leeds United returned to the summit of the Championship table on Sunday after fighting back from behind to win 2-1 against Wigan Athletic.
The Peacocks fell behind to an early goal but equalised after nine minutes through Pablo Hernandez, just three minutes after the hosts had taken the lead before Kemar Roofe scored the deciding goal in the second half with his seventh in 10 matches.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have the second-best defensive record in the division after conceding just 13 goals and a breakdown of the statistics shows further reasons to be impressed as just four of those have come from open play.
However, that does mean that nine of the goals Leeds have conceded this season have come from set pieces, showing an area where Bielsa’s side need to improve, and fans were discussing the stat on social media after it was revealed to them.
We have gathered some of the best responses below.
Not bad! Don't worry if you're too busy to look this up, but it'd be interesting to see how the number of goals we've conceded from set pieces compares with the rest of the division π€ But 4 from open play in 16 games is undoubtedly outstanding!

If Leeds cut down on conceding set piece goals the C/ship the season would suddenly become a very unfair league for other teams! 4 goals conceded in open play in 16 games is a phenomenal stat. At Wigan that team wide desire to defend came to fore and underpins that stat!

The good news is that’s fixable on the training ground.

4 of 9 were penalties and direct free-kicks, 2 penalty decisions were debatable and 2 free-kicks you’d probably expect more from BPF. 3 from corners & the throw-in at Millwall were defensive issues. Surely the stats aren’t claiming Reach’s screamer as a set-piece though?

Thatβs a cracking stat.

Unbelievable stat but the fact we’ve conceded 9 from set-pieces is as concerning as only conceding 4 from open play is encouraging. A lot of teams in this division rely heavily on set-pieces and it’s such a glaring weakness given the amount of frees we give away in our own half.
