Orta showing Championship thinking for Premier League mission with reported Leeds targets – Opinion

|

Football Insider have linked us with a double swoop on Liverpool for promising duo Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent, but Victor Orta would be showing Championship thinking for a Premier League mission by signing the pair.

Both have been in terrific form with their respective loan sides this season, but there would be a lot of doubt in their ability to make the step up to the English top-flight.

With how much youth we already have in the ranks, too, Orta would be better served targeting a few experienced names first, before strengthening the bulk of the fringe with prospects who may not add that much to the first-team.

We also have potential wonderkids in the making with Mateusz Bogusz and the rest of the Professional Development North Division title-winning U23 squad, who will be deserving of some first-team minutes in the not too distant future if they can continue to show their potential under Carlos Corberan.

Liverpool may also demand substantial fees for Wilson and Kent, as the Merseyside outfit have both tied down to long-term contracts.

Wilson only signed a new deal with the Reds last summer, as well, before ignoring our interest to join Derby County for the season, where he has gone on to score 14 goals and assist a further four from 41 appearances.

As for Kent, his deal at Anfield does not lapse until 2022, and he has been enjoying the best year of his senior career with Rangers, by scoring six and assisting nine in all competitions north of the border.

There again, if we do look to Swansea in the summer for Daniel James but come out empty handed once more, Wilson would offer a fine alternative to his countryman, as the potential fees could be eerily similar and the Liverpool-owned midfielder is one year James’ elder.
