Orta must find top Leeds man’s replacement, before it’s too late: Opinion

|

Leeds continued their surge towards the Premier League with a fine win over Reading last night at the Madejski Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Whites have been very good this campaign and one man in particular, unsurprisingly, has stood out with his class and panache on the pitch – Pablo Hernandez – and he did again last night.

Our best footballer last season, he’s been brilliant again this campaign with many of his team-mates joining him at a high level.

With all this excitement, though, it is easy to forget some concerning news about the Spaniard.

Come the start of next season – in the Premier League or not – he will be 34-years-old.

He is not the sort of player that relies on physical attributes, thankfully, so his tail off shouldn’t be as alarming but, clearly, a contingency plan for his successor now needs to be forged.

Finding a player of his calibre will take some time, of course, and so acting now before he really starts to decline makes sense.

Next season, he’ll still be one of our best players – but how long can we rely on that being the case thereafter?

Let’s have a plan sorted now, so when he does leave the club we miss him as minimally as possible – over to you Victor Orta.
