Opinion: Leeds may have to pay £12m and £1.5m wages to sign striker

|

According to Neil Moxley of the Mirror, Ivan Cavaleiro could be sold for the right price as he’s deemed surplus to requirements. The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order this season and been reduced to mostly substitute appearances. Leeds United were linked with Cavaleiro in January and could return for him this summer after learning of his availability.

The striker’s asking price was £12m in 2018 and his salary demands are likely to be around £1.5m-a-year/£29k-per-week. If Leeds fail to win promotion via the playoffs this season, it’s unlikely they would spend so much on one player this summer. But if they are successful in returning to the Premier League, £12m is affordable with the TV money they’ll receive.

Cavaleiro has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Wolves in 2018/19, scoring and creating seven goals. He’s racked up only 984 minutes of football, however, making just six starts in the league, two in the FA Cup and one in the EFL Cup. Wolves only paid £7m for his signature in 2016, so they may be open to selling him for less than £12m this summer.

Cavaleiro’s lack of playing time will cause his value to drop, but time will tell if Leeds even return for him.
