It`s always good when one of the sites regular users has some good news that they can share and on this occasion it`s our furthest away fan.

Regular Vital Leeds United contributor Saigon46 (Peter Woodward) now lives in Australia after emigrating more than half a century ago but is still as mad about the mighty Whites as he was when he first stood on the terraces at Elland Road in the 1940`s.

Today he is a proud granddad after his grandson Ryan Woodward won the 2009 Geoff Ogilvy Trophy for his golf exploits.

The trophy is awarded to the top under 18-year-old golfer in the state of Victoria.

To qualify they must play a minimum of fifteen rounds during the year in events scheduled with Geoff Ogilvy status.

At least one of these being a 72 hole event, two 18 to 36 hole metropolitan events and two 18 to 36 hole country event.

Ryan actually played 20 rounds over the year, he won the trophy with an average round score of 71.33, 0.8 better than his nearest rival.

The 18 year old enjoyed three sub par rounds during the season, which including one round of five under par.

Ryan won a number of events also during the season and he also received a Robert Allenby scholarship in November.

Saigon also happens to be the uncle of Allenby who has won a number of major PGA events in both Europe and America.

Saigon`s son, is also called Peter (Ryan`s dad) is also a talented amateur golfer and has won a number of titles in the past few years including the Victorian mid Amateur championship in 2008.

Both Saigon and his son are both lifelong Leeds United supporters, so all they have to do now is work on the grandson to support the mighty whites.
Who knows maybe one day we may see Ryan collecting the claret jug at St Andrews with a Leeds United shirt on.

Congratulations Ryan from everyone at Vital Leeds and good luck in the future.
