One final bit of ‘Klich-housing’

|

Last night Leeds United advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Cardiff City. Despite scoring five times, one of the highlights of the night came from none other than Mateusz Klich, with an assist from Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas.

Mateusz Klich will forever be remembered by Leeds fans for his engine and nonstop energy on the field. He started a staggering 92 consecutive games under former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, and was a key part of the team that took Leeds back to the promised land of the Premier League.

While Klich’s footballing abilities in a beloved Leeds side definitely drew fans in, the Polish international’s capacity to artistically wind up opposition players evoked a kind of love from the Elland Road faithful that won’t be soon replicated. From post-spygate binocular celebrations to replying to a certain Leeds fan named Bob on Twitter, there’s not going to be another player like Klich at Leeds anytime soon.

Following Leeds home draw with West Ham a couple of weeks ago, it seemed as though fans wouldn’t have the opportunity to give Mateusz Klich a fitting send-off before his move to DC United in the MLS – with the exception of a lacklustre and unannounced applause at the end of that game.

However, the club came good before last night’s Cardiff clash, and organised a proper send-off for the legendary midfielder.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a goodbye from Mateusz Klich without one last little bit of Klich-housing, would it?

Klichy saved a special goodbye for Cardiff City’s away support as he headed back down the tunnel, giving fans at Elland Road and beyond one last laugh before he jets off stateside. And if that wasn’t funny enough, long-time teammates of his, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas, were spotted egging on their friend and encouraging him to give us all that last bit of Klich-housery we didn’t know we needed.

A great night at Elland Road overall, which saw Leeds (finally!) win an FA Cup game, and also saw a fitting tribute to a top player. If there was a Leeds United Hall of Fame, there’s not a Whites fan on earth who wouldn’t have him in it. Good luck in the MLS, Klichy!
