A look back at what happened on this day May 6th in the history of Leeds United.
*On this day in 1972, Leeds United lifted the FA Cup for the only time in their history.
In the centenary FA Cup final in front of the Queen, Allan Clarke headed home a Mick Jones cross to secure a 1-0 win for Leeds.
The afternoon finished badly for Jones who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the final moments of the game but he was determined to climb the Wembley steps and collect his winner’s medal from the Queen.
It was a cruel blow for Leeds however as they had to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in a title decider just 48 two days after the FA Cup final. Leeds were beaten 2-1 and they were denied the double.
