A look back at what happened on this day May 3rd in the history of Leeds United.

*On this day in 1980, Leeds denied their old rivals Manchester United any chance of winning the league title on the final day of the season. With both Manchester United and Liverpool starting the final day of the season on level points, goals from Derek Parlane and Kevin Hird ensured the title went to Liverpool.

Parlane gave Leeds a first-half lead in front of almost 40,000 fans and a controversial second-half penalty by Hird earned Leeds a top half of the table finish.

**On this day 2000, Leeds kept up their ambitions of Champions League football the following season with a 3-1 win against Watford at Elland Road. Goals from Michael Bridges, Michael Duberry and Darren Huckerby kept Leeds above Liverpool in the race for third place.

***On this day in 2008, Leeds brought the curtain down on a rollercoaster first season in League One with a 2-1 win against Gillingham. Leeds started the season on -15 points but their win against Gillingham, thanks to goals from Bradley Johnson and Tresor Kandol, ensured Leeds finished the season in the play-off places. Without the deduction, Leeds would have finished second.
