A look back at what happened on this day 23rd April in the history of Leeds United.

Leeds have played 20 times on this day in their history with the clash at Barcelona in 1975 the most famous.

Manager Jimmy Armfield watched his side book their place in the European Cup final with a 1-1 draw in the Nou Camp.

Having won the first leg at Elland Road 2-1, Peter Lorimer opened the scoring for Leeds with a crucial away goal and despite the sending off of Gordon McQueen, just minutes after Barcelona equalised, they held on to go through 3-2 on aggregate on a famous night at the Nou Camp Stadium.

Also on this day in 1973, Leeds hopes of lifting the First Division title were dealt a blow as they went down to eventual champions Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield. It started a run of just one win in their final four games of the season. From 7th April when Leeds beat Wolverhampton Wanderers to book their place in the FA Cup Final, Leeds played 12 games in 39 days as they missed out on the league as well as losing the FA Cup Final to Sunderland and the European Cup Winners Cup Final to AC Milan, where they were robbed of the title.
