It’s a tale as old as time. Yorkshiremen trying to outdo each other over who’s the biggest and best, so clichéd, that Monty Python even did a sketch about it. Now it appears as though this behaviour has made its way into the boardrooms of football clubs as well.
As a result of Sheffield United’s recent promotion to the Premier League, Blades co-chairman Kevin McCabe came out and said that Sheffield was a bigger footballing city than Leeds.
Now, this isn’t quite the same as saying that Sheffield United are a bigger club than Leeds, but rather a take on the two cities as a whole. Given that Sheffield has the ability to support two football teams compared to Leeds’ one, maybe there’s some fair argument in that.
However, Leeds fans weren’t willing to take these kinds of comments lying down. They got on to Twitter to defend their club and their city and take a shot back at Sheffield United for their supposed obsession with Leeds United, especially at a time when they should be enjoying their own success.

I agree. The sum of two big football clubs means Sheffield is a bigger footballing city than Leeds. It does not mean though that either the Blunts or Wendies are bigger than Leeds.
