‘No thank you’ – Leeds fans react to managerial rumour

|

Rumours have begun to circulate that, should Marcelo Bielsa depart as United boss at the end of the season, that current Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is the preferred choice to take his position Elland Road.

Many news outlets, including the Daily Star, have reported that Gerrard could be lined up should the Argentine decide to move on at any point.

Former Liverpool great Gerrard took over at the Scottish club – his first role in senior football management – in the spring of 2018, taking charge officially for the 2018/19 season. Though yet to win a trophy in management, Gerrard has gradually improved Rangers as the club has gone through a rebuild following financial misdemeanours and the subsequent imposed punishment(s).

It would certainly be an interesting appointment for the ‘Whites’ should it happen. Gerrard is nowhere near as experienced as United’s current boss, though is clearly a driven and determined individual who may relish the challenge of returning Leeds to the promised land of the Premier League.

Although Rangers are a huge club, Scottish football (even at the top clubs), perhaps, doesn’t offer the same pull as yesteryear and Gerrard may see a move back South, to a club with such potential, as a smart and progressive career move.

Gerrard is also a big name, especially across English football, and would possess huge pulling power in the recruitment of players that could elevate United moving forward.

It’s fair to say the rumour has received a mixed response from Leeds fans. Here are some of the reactions:

Some think Gerrard’s passionate personality would be a good fit at Elland Road, while others weren’t keen on the idea at all.

While fans of the Glasgow giants were quick to question why, in their opinion, Gerrard would want to take a step backwards in his career.
