No senior ban for Leeds pair

Leeds United duo Jermaine Beckford and Jonathan Douglas will not miss any first-team action because of their pre-season dismissals, the club has confirmed.

Douglas was sent-off against FC Energie Cottbus for using ‘foul and abusive’ language, while Beckford was given his marching orders for dissent. However, as the match was a friendly the players will only miss reserve-team fixtures.

However, Douglas will still miss the first game of the season, the trip to Tranmere, as he still has one game of the five-ban suspension he picked-up last season to serve. Given the club need as many players available for selection as possible, the club’s announcement is encouraging.

And while it is a shame that the players will miss the reserve matches, it seems unlikely that either will see much second-string action next season – especially after boss Dennis Wise said this morning that Beckford is a key part of his plans as the club adjust to life in League One.
