News: Leeds want to take ex-Liverpool man from relegation threatened rival

|

A report has emerged that claims Leeds United want to add Daniel Ayala to their squad in January.

Leeds have Liam Cooper and Ben White as first-choice centre-backs, but it looks like they want to add Middlesbrough’s Ayala as a solid backup option.

The Spanish defender has played 205 games in the Championship and over time has become one of Boro’s most important players, but with Jonathan Woodgate’s team struggling in the league, the Whites may swoop in for Ayala.

Leeds will face competition from Stoke City and Fulham for Ayala – his contract is set to expire at the end of this season and talks have not begun on a new deal.

The former Liverpool man, though, has admitted that he wants to stay on Teeside – so Leeds would face a battle to convince him to move to Elland Road.

Should Leeds sign Ayala?

Yes

No

Ayala has years of experience and also has a good goal record with 22 so if the Whites could sign him, it would have to go down as a coup for Bielsa’s men.

Boro will try to keep Ayala, but they may offer him a lower wage than he is currently on, and that could see him depart the Riverside Stadium before the season ends.
