News: Leeds’ on loan star makes big statement on the international stage

|

Eddie Nketiah continued his fantastic goalscoring record for England’s Under 21s with a hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Austria in European qualifying.

The 20-year-old now has eight goals in eight games for Aidy Boothroyd’s men, and he is starting to look like the real deal.

His treble on Tuesday was a so-called perfect hat-trick with a goal from his right-foot, left-foot, and his head.

It was an incredible display of clinical finishing and surely must mean Marcelo Bielsa will start him on Saturday against Birmingham City.

Nketiah even had the chance to grab a fourth but saw his penalty saved by Austria’s goalkeeper.

After the game, Nketiah admitted he was becoming frustrated with his loan at Leeds as he wants to be starting matches.

In a refreshingly honest interview, the 20-year-old claimed that he was good enough to be in the Leeds team and that in both of his starts, he has scored – so what more can he do?

In a week where there were rumours, Arsenal may recall Nketiah; this interview is probably the last thing that a lot of Leeds fans wanted to hear, but the truth is Nketiah needs to be starting games.

He clearly has an eye for goal and could be the man to provide the Whites with that killer instinct that they lack.

Bielsa will have his reasons for not starting Nketiah, but his latest performances for England will only increase the clamour for the Arsenal man to start.

In a team that lacks goals, surely a man with Nketiah’s finishing instinct could be the solution.
