Leeds Word On The Tweet

“More of that please” – These Leeds fans reply to club post on Twitter

A few Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after the club shared a clip of Alfie McCalmont scoring for Northern Ireland’s Under 21s.

McCalmont started on the bench for the Green and White Army’s youth side on Thursday night against Hungary, and found the back of the net with a rocket from the edge of the box to pull the score level.

His shot was enough to rescue a draw for Northern Ireland, after Heracles Almelo midfielder Adrian Szoke’s scrambled effort in the first-half had given Hungary the lead at Ferney Park.

Chances were at a premium for both sides following the break, but McCalmont saved the day for Northern Ireland when our U23s ace found the back of the net with a delightful left-footed finesse ten minutes from time.

The 19-year-old, who made his senior Whites debut against Salford City in the Carabao Cup this August, cut inside to find the top corner from 20 yards out, just as proceedings seemed to be heading for an away win for Hungary.

Thursday night’s draw was McCalmont’s third appearance for Northern Ireland’s Under 21s, having represented his country’s U19s on five occasions.

Should Bielsa give McCalmont more first-team minutes?

Yes, absolutely

No, he's not ready

McCalmont is yet to feature for Leeds in the Championship, although Marcelo Bielsa has named the teenager on the bench three times, the last of which came in the 1-0 defeat at home to Swansea City in August.
