Over the weekend speculation hotted up about Leeds United’s potential interest in Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford.
He’s not an entirely new name on the transfer rumour mill over the last week but Leeds Live reported on Sunday that they understood we had now agreed a potential £7million fee with Boro for the 24-year-old former Chelsea striker, and that he was set to undergo a medical at some point today ahead of completing a permanent transfer.
The highly rated, but often underwhelming player, would come in to fill the Number 9 hole in the line up under Marcelo Bielsa and it would most likely bring an end to speculation linking us with moves for Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez and other such speculation that has infuriated fans so far this summer.
Crowned Player of the Year back in 2014/15 whilst on-loan at Boro with 17 goals in 38 appearances, the player is certainly looking to get himself back on track and he has undoubted quality – but can Leeds get it out of him and provide him with a real home?
Patrick Bamford
On recent records, I'd prefer Vydra no doubt. But if he can be coached properly and we can find a system that suits him, £7 million is a snip. Champ POTY in 2015 let's not forget

Vydra would have been nice but time to forget about it and move on to much time wasted on that one, getting a good player in bamford and hopefully the rest of the money will be used to strengthen other positions #lufc #mot

Say what you want about Orta, but I think he's learning his lessons from last year.
Forshaw in January and now Baker, Blackman, Douglas & Bamford. The makings of a very good window… #lufc

Even if Bielsa says so

Correct I’d take him and hugill on loan though if we’re still in for him

Played class today in a lot of areas but it's clear the end product is lacking I hope Bamford is the right choice #lufc

I said before that I’d be happy as long as we got a decent striker, bamford done deal and won’t be any complaints from me ????

Not going to lie, I would have preferred Vydra, but Bamford is still a top signing. The last two days have definitely calmed the nerves. #MOT #LUFC

I think we need Bamford more than we need Vydra, but Vydra would’ve definitely brought some class to the side #LUFC
