Reports in the United States yesterday claimed that MLS side Atlanta United were looking at Leeds United gaffer Marcelo Bielsa as a replacement for current incumbent Tito Martino.

Having just lifted the MLS Cup the American rumour mill has their gaffer leaving for the Mexican national side (a job Bielsa has also been linked with) and a few players are also said to be departing for fresh pastures.

To save overly repeating myself.

Are Leeds In Danger Of Losing Bielsa – That’d Be A No Then

The general consensus at the time was there was nothing in it, especially as Leeds are flying high in the Championship and Bielsa seems perfectly happy at the club given how his English adventure is panning out so far.

Given how quickly the news gained traction on social media and in UK based outlets, President Darren Eales has now set the record straight and quoted by the Daily Mail he categorically stated that they were ‘absolutely not’ interested in Bielsa as their new gaffer, mainly because they knew the chance of getting him was less than remote.

“Absolutely not. As far as I’m aware he’s managing Leeds at the moment, so I’m not sure where that’s come from. There may be a misconception because I was talking about style of play and I said, ‘If you look at Tata Martino, Mauricio Pochettino, when I was at Tottenham, he talked about Bielsa’s style of play’. I think someone may have got the wrong end of the stick, clearly not. He’s coaching at Leeds. He’s not someone that we’d be thinking about.”

Nice to know the US press can turn a non-story into ‘a thing’ just as successfully as their UK counterparts.

His confirmation did give the story a second wind on Twitter, but nobody was surprised to see there was nothing in it as it didn’t make sense to begin with.
