I wonder if this could be a case of ‘the one that got away’.
Ryan Kent yesterday sealed his move to Rangers, signing on a permanent basis, which probably puts an end to Leeds’ pursuit of him for some time.
Although when you consider that we got Eddie Nketiah as the ‘consolation prize’, I don’t think we’ve done too badly out of the whole saga. Given that it came down to a straight fight between the two in the final days of the transfer window, and how well Nketiah has started in his brief appearances so far, we might just be able to say we got away with it, but only time will tell.
So when the news came through that Kent had finally completed his move north of the border, how did they react?
Well it seemed that a lot of them were rather annoyed at the whole affair, with some questioning the strategy of the Leeds board over exactly who they brought in this window. Given the complications have arisen over the deal for Jack Clarke, it seems as though they’d much rather have brought in Kent than kept hold of Clarke.
Ah so you have to pay like actual money to get Ryan Kent? That’s why we didn’t sign him then. #lufc https://t.co/LglyeEN75f

We have missed a trick here. Kent is sick.

Would have been better paying for him than loaning back young Clarke. That's been a pointless loan

Ryan Kent gone to Rangers on a 4yr deal for £7.5m. Thoughts, Leeds fans? The way things are looking I’d rather have had him than JC #lufc

It's alright lads, we'll go for Kent in January #lufc

Is it just me or does £7m for Ryan Kent seem like an awful lot of money? #lufc

These two however decided to place their blame at the feet of an even higher power.
And thats the problem with staggered transfer windows … Liverpoo wanted 11 mil off #lufc for Kent .. Rangers get him for 7 because their window closes later & Poo want rid

I think we could have got him for 7m, but opted for Eddie instead as that was the priority position that needed filling.
But yes, staggered transfer windows are awkward.
