Leeds Vital member emz57 had the pleasure of watching Leeds United v Liverpool in the 1974 Charity shield and thought it would be good to share here thought on the game in this weeks memory match.

I have just had the pleasure to watch Leeds United v Liverpool in the 1974 charity shield. It was a brilliant match to watch, a different class of football from both sides.

Liverpool got the first goal but they had to fight for it as the Leeds lads were giving them nothing! Trevor Cherry brought it back for us. I was tackle after tackle. The defenders were fantastic! David Harvey was never left on his own when Liverpool got near our goal. There was always a minimum of three players round him, protecting him!!

When we crossed the ball into their box we always had 2-3 players running in! The passing, the tackling, the defending, everything was a class apart.

It went to penalties and not one out of the five from either side was missed so our goal keeper David Harvey went up and took the sixth which unfortunately missed. Liverpool not willing to do the same didn’t put their goal keeper up and scored their sixth penalty,

Even though Liverpool won I thoroughly enjoyed watching this match!

Our players should be made to watch these matches because they could learn an awful lot and learn to be the next great Leeds United.

These players are the legends of Elland Road. They set the marker years ago and since then not one of our teams have gotten close!
