Leeds United kept up their play-off hopes and quickly put their thrashing to Nottingham Forest behind them with a gutsy win at Millwall.

Ross McCormack scored his first goal in seven games and goalkeeper Andy Lonergan saved a Darius Henderson penalty to earn Leeds their first win at the New Den in their last five attempts.

The first half was one to forget with neither side looking capable of breaking the deadlock with defences on top in a dour 45 minutes.

Leeds started the second half well and McCormack tested Maik Taylor in the Millwall goal.

Millwall had two claims for a penalty turned down.

Millwall defender Jack Smith was booked for an apparent dive and they had real strong claims turned down when Alex Bruce looked like he had handled in the area.

Leeds scored the all-important goal on 65 minutes after a quick break. Adam Clayton fed Robert Snodgrass and his low cross was steered home by McCormack from close range.

Within minutes Millwall were given an opportunity to get back into the game when former Leeds loan player Andy Keogh was fouled just inside the area.

Millwall were incensed when Harry Kane fired home following the foul but referee Lee Probert had already pointed to the penalty spot.

Lonergan then dived low to his left to deny Henderson from the spot and keep his clean sheet intact.

McCormack had a great chance to clinch the points for Leeds late in the game but he fired straight at Taylor when he should have scored.

Millwall had a late chance when Paul Robinson saw his header come back off the crossbar.

Despite four minutes of added time being shown, referee Probert eventually played seven minutes but Millwall could find no way past a resolute Leeds defence who kept their fourth clean sheet in a row on their travels under Neil Warnock.

The win moves Leeds to within three points of the play-off places with most of the teams above them fighting for a play-off place once again failing to win.
