Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has explained that the club have indeed been looking to sign Club Brugge’s versatile forward Charles de Ketelaere, as has been talked about a lot this summer, and even that the club are “not finished yet” with the Belgian.

“The striker one, I think it’s been well documented that De Ketelaere was a goal of ours and it’s not finished yet with him.”

However, this comes with a catch.

“But we’ve also moved on to some other targets trying to figure out which would be the best fit if in the end, which is what we believe, he will not be available.”

It seems that de Ketelaere’s eyes are on Milan, with the Italian champions a more luxurious choice than Leeds United right now: trophies and Champions League football can be offered at the San Siro, while Leeds are in more of a building stage right now. The club can afford the signing but the player is the factor that has likely stopped this deal from happening.

The “other targets” likely include Arnaud Kalimuendo, Martin Terrier and even Sékou Mara, all currently plying their trade in France at this moment in time. Kalimuendo scored, along with Lionel Messi, in a 2-1 friendly win for PSG over Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale today, Wednesday.
