Marcelo Bielsa gave an injury update on Adam Forshaw ahead of Saturday’s Sheffield Wednesday clash, revealing the Leeds midfielder “has a problem with the groin”. The 28-year-old has been out of action for a month, last featuring against Charlton Athletic on September 28, and can’t seem to stay fit this season.

He’s made eight appearances for Leeds in 2019/20, making one assist, but injuries problems have limited him to just one appearance in all competitions since August. He suffered a hip injury in October and missed Leeds’ 2-0 win over Barnsley (September 15) and 1-1 draw with Derby County (September 21).

The Englishman returned against Charlton but has missed the four league games that followed. And in quotes reported by Leeds Live, Bielsa revealed: “He has a problem with the groin. It’s an injury that is not easy to deal with. A difficult situation. And it’s not easy to get the process of recovery.

“The reason we don’t have clear reference, the evolution of his process is not linear. This kind of injury you have high and low until you heal this injury in a definitive way.

“What we have is that Adam is a great professional. He is working hard to try and get out of this situation. The same with the medical staff, they help him. They are involved to try and improve the situation.”

In Forshaw’s absence, Bielsa has turned to Jamie Shackleton, Stuart Dallas, Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich in midfield. The Whites have a difficult trip to Sheffield Wednesday, however, with the Owls boasting consecutive home wins. Leeds have picked up just one point from their last three away games too.

Victory for United could see them go top of the Championship if West Bromwich Albion lose to Charlton.
