“Smacks of Bielsa”, “Should be running the country” – Many Leeds fans praise “genius” decision

Leeds have done a lot of things right on and off the pitch but a crucial decision that was made at the beginning of 2020 sets them apart from other clubs, and in fact most of wider society.

The club’s staff, led by Head of Medicine and Performance, Rob Price, quickly realised that the outbreak of the pandemic had potential to disrupt European football in late January, and began preparing for that prospect.

Steps were taken to put packs together that would contain exercise bikes, gym balls, harnesses with GPS trackers and a variety of other different equipment to help players maintain their fitness levels, and allow the club to monitor how they would get on in self-isolation.

According to The Athletic those packs were then delivered as soon as training was suspended and the lockdown came into full force, and that may have given our players an advantage in keeping fit at home.

Whether it sets us apart from the rest of the division when football returns remains to be seen, but it is certainly forward-thinking that should be commended, with many fans taking turns to praise those responsible for the initiative.
