Brentford manager Dean Smith has moved to quash the rumours surrounding Ryan Woods after he was left out of the Bees’ side yesterday.

The development certainly caught my eye that he wasn’t involved against Rotherham United as they ran out 5-1 winners in a comprehensive display.

I surely wasn’t the only one to notice, too, and the question has been asked to Dean Smith what the thinking was behind it with him linked to our club of late.

Smith said as quoted by the Press Association.

“He is under a bit of stress at the moment as his wife is pregnant and close to having a baby, so it was best to leave him out.

“As far as I’m concerned he’s a member of the squad and his valuation hasn’t been met.”

Evidently, then, there is little to suggest that football matters are causing him to be left out with Swansea also keen on the player.

Until the Swans – or we, if we’re still interested – make the right offer, though, it seems that Woods will be staying put for the men from West London.

Judging by their display yesterday, too, if he does stay on they will take some serious stopping as he’ll only make them better.
