‘Man is a guaranteed twenty goals’ – These Leeds fans share the signing they want to happen next

|

Leeds have spoiled us a bit this week with the capture of five players in Helder Costa, Ben White, Liam McCarron, Jack Harrison and Jack Clarke’s immediate return on loan, but some United supporters are hoping the announcements just keep on coming.

A few of the Whites fanbase on Reddit have been discussing who they would like Director of Football Victor Orta and manager Marcelo Bielsa to target in the coming weeks, as they prepare the United squad for another war on the Championship.

While the arrival of Costa and the returns for Harrison and Clarke have bolstered the boss’ options on the wings, and White’s move on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion has given him another centre-back to consider, there has not yet been a striker through the door.

Having only Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe as our recognised senior strikers last term thwarted our promotion efforts somewhat, and a repeat of either’s horrific injury records could derail our upcoming campaign in a similar manner.

That’s why some of the Elland Road faithful would like another centre-forward to sign on the dotted line before the window slams shut, with shouts being made to target Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle, who excelled in the second-tier in 2018/19 while on loan with West Bromwich Albion, striking 24 goals in 40 games.

The Baggies cannot pursue a permanent deal for the London-born ace, however, as his wage demands and the Magpies’ expected £20million asking price makes a deal financially impossible without substantial funds being raised in the summer.

Newcastle are understood to be open to the 28-year-old leaving in the current market, too, although Rafa Benitez’s exit from their helm could see that Gayle chases another chance to salvage his career on Tyneside under a new manager.

Gayle is not the only player fans would like to see join the Whites before the window closes, though…
