When we beat Millwall at the weekend, the two sides were welcomed out from the tunnel to a tifo simply saying: “believe”.
The fan display may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, but one fan, who must have loved it, has shared the suggestion that we should honour Marcelo Bielsa at our last home match.
Rather than holding placards that spell “believe”, the suggestion is that fans in the East Stand would hold aloft signs that spell out “Bielsa” when Aston Villa arrive in West Yorkshire on April 27.
The clash could go a long way in deciding who, out of us, Sheffield United and Norwich, secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, which would be a simply incredible accomplishment for the boss given where we were when he took charge.
Since his arrival, we have played 42 competitive games in all competitions, winning 24 with a 69 goal haul – accounting for a 1.95 Points per Game (PPG) average in the Championship.
The last chief to hold a PPG as high as that was Neil Readfearn, who took 2.5 during his four games as caretaker manager back in 2014 – no full-time boss has ever eclipsed the 1.8 PPG mark over the course of their tenure.
Should we also secure promotion back into the Premier League under Bielsa, then the Argentine will be sure to secure his place as a legend at Elland Road.
