Macca on Leeds United Point

Gary McAllister has given a frank view on Saturday’s 1-1 draw with struggling Crewe Alexandra and has demanded an improvement from his squad.

A late Tresor Kandol goal rescued a point for United as they slipped even further behind the playoff-positions, let alone the automatic promotion places that the club looked to be fighting towards after their excellent start to the season.

McAllister made no attempt to hide his disappointment as he spoke to leedsunited.com:

“Being truthful, we’re not going to hide behind a late equaliser and take pats on the back for that because it wasn’t enough.”

“We’ve made it clear to the guys that teams from lower down raise their game and play above themselves here, and we have to step up from where we are at to bridge that.

“We didn’t do that. We put them under pressure for spells, but not enough, and they were comfortable.”

Turning his attention away from Crewe, who are looking to claw themselves away from threat of relegation, Macca was similarly blunt on what has to be done between now and the end of the season:

“We need to keep pressure on the teams above us and dropping points at home will not get us where we want to be.

“We have to keep going. We have to push it on because there’s so much to play for. There’s so much at stake for this club.”
