Leeds United star Luke Ayling has reacted on Twitter after Wales international Tyler Roberts was named as Quest’s Player of the Weekend following his brace at Hull City on Saturday.

Roberts had been nothing more than an unused substitute in our previous three Championship fixtures, as boss Marcelo Bielsa contently watched on as we beat Bristol City, Reading and Middlesbrough by one goal to nil.

But the Argentine felt he needed to inject some added danger in attack at the KCOM Stadium over the weekend, despite Ayling and Pablo Hernandez propelling us to a two-goal lead, and called on Roberts to replace Patrick Bamford with 23 minutes left on the clock.

Bamford had once again failed to break the goal line during a second-tier match, with the Grantham-born striker now with just two goals in his last 11 league games – coming in a brace at home to Millwall seven appearances ago.

Roberts did not waste his chance to impress, though, as the seven-time international leapt from the dugout and trebled his tally for the league term with goals in the 81st and 84th minutes.

The 21-year-old’s display caught the eye of plenty of supporters up and down the country, as a whopping 77.7% of 11,569 voters named Roberts as their Championship Player of the Weekend in a poll carried out by Quest.

A post on the official Leeds United account announcing Robert’s commanding success earned much clamour from the Elland Road faithful, and that includes star right-back Ayling.

The 28-year-old shared a post of his own lauding his £3.6million-rated teammate, captioned: “Well deserved if you ask me.”

Ayling had started his 26th Championship fixture of the season against Hull on Saturday before opening the scoring with his third goal of the season, while winning two of six ground duels, four of six aerial duels, making three clearances, four interceptions, blocking one shot and playing four accurate long passes (50%) amid a total 52 (82%), per Sofa Score.

As for Roberts, he came off the bench to fire a brace from each of his shots, while completing his only attempted dribble, only long pass, winning two of three ground duels and taking 20 touches.

In other Leeds United news, a summer free agent has been tipped to earn a new contract at Elland Road.
