Leeds United midfielder Ian Westlake has joined Cheltenham Town on a short term trial basis.
He`s expected to play for the reserves this week with the hope that he can then join them on loan.

Ian Westlake has yet to play for Leeds under Gary McAllister and ended last season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion.

With Leeds having a surplus of midfielders and the emergence this season of youngster Fabian Delph into the first team, Westlake`s chances of first team football were almost nil.

Gary McAllister speaking on the official website said “I had a chat with Westy at the start of the season, and explained that I thought there were other players ahead of him.”

Westlake has made just over 30 appearances for Leeds and last season scored some crucial late goals including a very late winner at Oldham.

The midfielder who joined Leeds in 2006 is still only 24 and will be hoping to re start his career with Cheltenham and get some much needed first team football.
