Leeds had to settle for a draw after twice taking the lead in a tough West Yorkshire derby.

The Whites made the perfect start when Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring inside two minutes after Smithies in the Huddersfield goal spilled a soft shot from Kilkenny.

Huddersfield were almost level within minutes when Jordan Rhodes effort cannoned back off the post.

Town continued to pressurise the Leeds defence and Roberts was next to chance his arm from long range but his effort went wide.

The Terriers were enjoying plenty of space down both wings and Capaldi and Crowe both found themselves in the book inside the opening twenty minutes.

Vokes had a good chance to put Leeds back in front but his header from a Beckford cross went just wide.

Michalik was next to go close but his header also went wide of the target from a Leeds corner.

Vokes was put through on goal, but ran the ball to close to Smithies who cut out the danger.

Huddersfield continued to be a threat down both wings and some last ditch defending from Michalik and Crowe kept the game all square.

Snodgrass went close twice in quick succession, first his over head kick just clipped the outside of the post and then his curling shot was easily dealt with by Smithies.

Jordan Rhodes had the best chance to put the visitors back on level terms just before half time but Bromby once again was there to block his shot.

Huddersfield started the second half on the front foot and deservedly drew level inside the first five minutes when Novak was in space inside the six yard box to head in.

Leeds almost retook the lead within minutes, after great work from Snodgrass down the left found Beckford but his shot was blocked.

The game was end to end by now and Beckford had a good chance when put through but a poor touch allowed Smithies to come out and gather the ball.

Simon Grayson made a double substitution just past the hour mark when Max Gradel and Luciano Becchio entered the fray.

Huddersfield went close when Ankergren saved Kay`s spectacular overhead kick at the second attempt.

Ankergren quickly hit a long ball down field, Beckford put Smithies under pressure and the ball fell to Gradel who drilled the ball home from an acute angle to restore the lead for Leeds.

It was Gradel`s first involvement since coming on and it once again lead to shout`s from the Leeds faithful of ‘sign him up`.

Rhodes came close to equalising when he headed wide.

The visitors thought they should have had a penalty when the ball clearly hit Bromby`s hand but the referee who had a very indifferent game waved away the appeals.

Huddersfield drew level again with only twelve minutes remaining when Roberts ball into the box was met by Rhodes who headed into an empty net with Ankergren once again doing his favourite Superman impression and getting nowhere near the ball.

The visitors looked the most likely side to go on and claim all three points, and despite four minutes of added time Leeds clung on for a point against a very fast and well organised Huddersfield side.
