New Leeds United signing Danny Webber says he is raring to go despite a lack of first team football this season.

Webber has arrived as a free agent after being released by Portsmouth at the end of last season and he has signed a deal to keep him at Elland Road until the end of the season.

The 30 year old has not played in the League since last May and he made just eight appearances for the South Coast club last season.

Webber says he has been keeping himself fit having been invited along to train with his first club Manchester United by their boss Alex Ferguson.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Webber said, “I have been keeping myself fit and training at a few other clubs. I got a phone call to come down and have a look and thankfully, it has gone well.

“I am happy that the phone call came and I am raring to go now.

“Leeds are a massive club with a lot of history and it is a great set up here. I have played for Neil Warnock before and hopefully, I can hit the ground running.

“I haven`t played matches for a while. I have been training and there is a big difference but I will put in the hard work and run through the pain barrier and I will be fit as quick as I can.

“It felt good just to be playing a football match again, all be it a reserve game but the more minutes I get under my belt the fitter I will get and the stronger I will get and then I will be able to put in better performances.

The versatile player who can play either up front or on the wing is now looking forward to working with his former boss Neil Warnock with whom he helped get Sheffield United promoted to the Premier League in 2005/06. “I have enjoyed good parts of my career under him and he knows how to get the best out of his player and how to motivate people so hopefully he can do that with everybody here,” continued Webber.

Webber feels Leeds can still put a run together between now and the end of the season and hopefully get into the play-off places.

Leeds are currently four points outside the play-off places with just thirteen games remaining and they still have to face seven sides currently above them in the championship table. “It is within touching distance and it is a case of putting in a good run and between now and May and you never know where we will end,”said the experienced Webber.

Webber will wear the number 25 shirt during his stay with Leeds United.
