Danny Webber is tipping Leeds United to be pushing for promotion next season under manager Neil Warnock.
Webber was part of the Sheffield United squad that won promotion to the Premier League under Warnock in 2006 and he feels Warnock will sign the right players in the summer to push for promotion next season.
Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Webber said, “I think any team that Neil has put together generally competes for the top six at least.
“It`s a case of him getting the people in he requires and the atmosphere he wants for next season.
“Obviously, things need freshening up and he`ll get the camaraderie and belief in the camp that everybody needs.
“I`m sure if he does that, Leeds will be absolutely flying.
“I think Leeds can turn it around, 100 per cent. You look at what Neil did with QPR and the bunch of players there.
“He almost also got Crystal Palace in the play-offs when they were near the bottom when he took over. A few more games and they would have been in the play-offs.”
Webber is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer after becoming Warnock`s first signing on a short-term deal.
The 30 year old has made 12 appearances for Leeds since making his debut as a substitute in the game with Southampton, a game where he could have quite easily have marked his debut with a goal being denied by an inspired Kelvin Davis in the saints goal on more than one occasion.
Webber could make his final appearance for Leeds in the home game with Leicester on Saturday and he is desperate to sign off with a goal. “It would be nice to sign off with a win and nice for me to finally hit the back of the net. It`s been absolutely forever!
“I know I`ve not played up front in my normal position really, but I`ve had enough chances and I should have put one or two away during my time here,” added Webber.
Warnock is expected to announce his released and retained list early next week following the conclusion of the season against Leicester this weekend.
The new Leeds boss has stated that ‘major surgery` is required in the summer months with the squad if Leeds are to stand any chance of promotion next season.
A number of players have been linked with a move to Elland Road recently with defender Jason Pearce – Portsmouth and midfielder Paul Green – Derby County reported to have already agreed deals to join Leeds in the summer.
