Leeds United boss Neil Warnock said his Leeds side battered Southampton in the 1-0 home defeat in a game he said they totally dominated.
Warnock was pleased with the commitment shown by his players and he said he expects that from his players on a weekly basis.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Warnock said, “I expect that commitment every week. We played the top of the league tonight and we have absolutely battered them.
“We dominated so much. The fans were great and it was exciting stuff but unfortunately not the right result, but a lot to work with.
“We have twelve games left and we have got to give that commitment.
“I think if we give that commitment. I think players now know they want to be here. It is a fabulous place and a great crowd.
“Some of the players will never have worked as hard as that but they will enjoy the challenge and I am looking forward to it.”
Leeds dominated the game from start to finish against the league leaders who rarely threatened the Leeds goal.
Robert Snodgrass could have won Leeds a penalty in the opening minutes when the arm of Jose Fonte blocked his shot and Adam Clayton saw his volley saved by Kelvin Davis, who had an inspired evening in the Southampton goal.
Southampton took the lead on 16 minutes through leading goalscorer Rickie Lambert and it was to prove crucial as Leeds could not find a way past Davis.
Snodgrass and Ross McCormack both had volleys go just wide and Becchio saw his close range effort kept out by a sharp reflection save by Davis.
In the second half, Becchio went close in the opening minutes of the half when his effort went just over the bar.
Davis then produced two outstanding saves to deny Becchio again and Danny Webber, on his debut for Leeds could have quite easily have had a hat trick if not for the heroics of Davis and some resolute defending.
Leeds evening in front of goal was summed up in the closing minutes when both Snodgrass and Darren O`Dea hit the crossbar in one attack, as Leeds could just not find a way through.
